MOTT OPTICAL GROUP X LAURA YE
ANATOMY OF THE VISIONARY
Mott Optical Group has collaborated with illustrator Laura Ye to bring you a story about the passions and obsessions of 1970's immigrant community in Chinatown, featuring Mott Optical Group's latest eyeglass brand designs. The bold designs of Suki and Mott & Bayard are inspired by the passions of the early Chinatown community as they ambitiously dreamed and sought after brighter visions of new lives and possibilities.
Laura Ye grew up in Shanghai, China, and is now studying illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York.
They were drawn to the lights-- the fluorescent glow of familiar and unfamiliar languages, and the dim warmth of private spaces and private dreams. But they were also drawn by the unseen light, an inkling of a reality that they have yet to create for themselves.
They chased the light. They followed it into a dream, and down the rabbit hole they went.
The steady chorus of machinery, needles, and repetitions reverberated through heat, smoke, and sweat. Words, aspirations, childish fantasies, fears and hopes, the chill of early mornings, and distant drumbeats rolled in like waves, until there were thousands upon thousands of dreams within one dream, and until it seemed like the dreamers were lost in their dreams. But they were not lost. They were the architects of their dreams. Despite the chaos that sought to blind them, they could always see the winding road and the light that illuminated its course.
They saw, with clarity, the visions of tomorrow.
They held onto the dragonscale, and believed in what did not exist.
They see what does not exist, and fight to create it.
